The Panvel Municipal Corporation has started organising health check-up camps at around 43 locations across its jurisdiction under the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Lok Kalyankari Yojana, following directions from Mayor Nitin Patil.

A health check-up camp was organised at the zilla parishad school in Phanaswadi on Thursday. The camp was inaugurated by Madhu Patil, chairperson of Ward Committee B. Residents from the area attended the camp and underwent health check-ups.

The camp was held under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale. Chief Medical Officer Dr Anand Gosavi, Tuberculosis Officer Dr Usha Rathod, Maternal and Child Health Officer Dr Ganesh Nair, Medical Officer Dr Suresh Pandit, Medical Officer Dr Bhaktaraaj Bhoite, and other civic officials and staff were present.

Under the initiative, health check-up camps are being organised at around 43 locations across all four wards of the Panvel Municipal Corporation. Specialist doctors from various medical fields will examine residents at the camps.

The camps are being held from September 10 to November 2. Residents will have access to specialist consultations in gynaecology and obstetrics, ear, nose and throat (ENT), general medicine, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, psychiatry, paediatrics, and dermatology.

The civic body said the initiative is aimed particularly at ensuring residents in rural areas of its jurisdiction have access to timely health check-ups and specialist medical advice. Primary health assessments will be conducted at the camps, with residents being guided towards further treatment where required.

Maharashtra health department steps up training for public healthcare workers

The initiative comes amid wider efforts to strengthen healthcare services and skills among public health workers in Maharashtra. The state Public Health Department has recently introduced a new training policy for its workforce, including a proposed 28-day residential Skill Lab programme focused on practical training for healthcare workers.

Under the proposed programme, healthcare staff will receive practical training through skill laboratories and district hospitals. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the skills of healthcare personnel and improving the delivery of public health services.

The Panvel Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents to make use of the health camps being organised in their respective areas and undergo timely health check-ups.
