Fadnavis said Maha AI will eventually function as a unified AI platform across all departments and will be integrated with major e-governance systems
The Maharashtra government has developed a first-of-its-kind artificial intelligence platform in India, named âMaha AI - Maharashtra Hub for Advanced Artificial Intelligence', aimed at making governance more efficient, secure and citizen-centric, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday.
The initiative is expected to be rolled out across state departments soon and is designed to significantly speed up administrative processes, including drafting of official correspondence, preparation of notes and reports, translation of government documents, file summarisation, and retrieval of information from official databases and knowledge repositories.
Fadnavis was speaking at a review meeting on the Maha AI platform held at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan, senior bureaucrats, and officials from the IT and AI departments were present.
The Chief Minister said Maha AI will play a key role in modernising governance by integrating artificial intelligence into routine administrative functions.
The system has been developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for Maharashtra and is hosted on the state's data centre infrastructure under the Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Department, ensuring data sovereignty, confidentiality and security.
He emphasised that all sensitive government data will remain under state control and will be processed and stored within secure government infrastructure.
The platform will enable officials to generate official letters and emails, summarise and translate documents, prepare explanations, and access contextual information from government rules, acts, resolutions and circulars.
It will also support natural language-based report generation and introduce AI-assisted beneficiary verification to reduce duplication in welfare schemes.
The system includes features such as multiple AI model options, document and image upload capabilities, secure user authentication, end-to-end encryption, and role-based access control to safeguard government records.
Fadnavis added that Maha AI will eventually function as a unified AI platform across all departments and will be integrated with major e-governance systems such as e-Office, RTI, e-HRMS and Aaple Sarkar, further strengthening drafting, translation, summarisation, knowledge management and verification services.
Officials from the IT department, including Virendra Singh and State Information Officer Sapna Kapoor, presented the platform during the meeting.
