As India prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the NGO Making The Difference (MTD) has launched the 2026 edition of its flagship campaign - Mera Tiranga, Meri Shaan. To ensure that no national flag is discarded disrespectfully, the organisation has introduced a convenient, cost-free collection mechanism: citizens, schools, and housing societies can now send their used or damaged flags to the NGO's office via Porter or Rapido, with all delivery charges fully covered by the NGO.
First launched in 2023 under the core belief that "a national flag is not waste; it is a symbol of our pride, identity, and sacrifice," the campaign has facilitated the respectful disposal of over 1000 Tirangas.
Highlighting the importance of the campaign, Deepak Vishwakarma, founder and president of MTD, stated, "The Tiranga represents the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and the aspirations of every Indian. Our responsibility does not end when the celebration concludes.

By facilitating free doorstep pickups via Porter and Rapido, we want to ensure that every citizen, school, and society has a seamless way to honour our national symbol. We urge everyone to collect damaged flags in bulk and send them to us. We will handle the logistics and the cost, because protecting the dignity of the Tiranga is a collective national duty."
In strict adherence to the "Flag Code of India", every flag undergoes a formal inspection process. Flags that are damaged, torn, or no longer fit for display are separated and disposed of through a solemn, private ceremony, typically by burning or burying in accordance with official guidelines that preserve the sanctity of the national flag, ensuring it is never treated as ordinary waste. The code came into effect on January 26, 2002.
£Complimentary delivery: Citizens can book a delivery through Porter or Rapido and send the flags to the MTD office.
The NGO will bear the cost of transportation.
£Direct submission: Citizens can drop off flags at the MTD office.
£Bulk collection drives: Schools, corporate offices, and residential societies are encouraged to organise collective drives and contact the NGO for coordination.
