BEST to operate late-night bus services during New Year. File pic
In view of strengthening commuter services across the city on New Year's Eve, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on Monday announced that they will operate additional bus services across key routes on the night of December 31. The move from BEST is to ensure smooth and convenient travel for people heading out for New Year's Eve celebrations.
While issuing a release on Monday, BEST said that the extra services which have been offered are aimed at facilitating passengers travelling to popular tourist destinations such as the Gateway of India, Juhu Chowpatty, Gorai Creek and Marve Chowpatty, which traditionally witness heavy footfall on New Year's Eve.
BEST further added that additional buses will be run on regular routes No. C-86, 203 and 231, along with air-conditioned routes No. A-21, A-112, A-116, A-247, A-272 and A-294.
These special services by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) will operate between 10 pm and 12.30 am to cater to late-night commuters.
Additionally, the popular âHeritage Tour' bus service will also be operated specially on New Year's Eve. As informed by the BEST, the service will begin at 5.30 pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, and continue into the early hours of Thursday, January 1, 2026 (New Year's Day), subject to passenger demand.
Furthermore, the transport department has also appealed to citizens to make use of public transport and avail themselves of these additional services to avoid traffic congestion and ensure a safe commute during the festivities.
While addressing the special travel services to the citizens, the transport department also highlighted, "BEST appeals to passengers to take advantage of the additional bus services being operated on the above-mentioned routes for their convenience on the night of December 31, 2025, for New Year's Eve celebrations."
The move is part of BEST's annual arrangements to manage increased travel demand during major festivals and celebrations across Mumbai.
Earlier in November, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking also announced a major overhaul of its bus network across Mumbai, introducing new routes, modifying several existing ones, and converting select air-conditioned (AC) services into regular buses.
According to BEST officials, the reorganisation aims to enhance inter-suburban connectivity, ease congestion at bus depots, and provide smoother travel options between major residential and commercial areas.
