Mumbai crime: Posing as MGL workers, youths rob 69-yr-old in Ghatkopar

Two men posing as Mahanagar Gas Nigam Limited (MGL) employees robbed a 69-year-old woman at her Ghatkopar residence. Incidentally, Munnidevi Singh's family is the CNG business.

The incident
The victim, Munnidevi Singh resides at Ghatkopar's Himalaya Society in Milind Nagar. According to police sources, the incident took place at 4 pm on Tuesday when her husband, Samsher, was out for work and Munnidevi's son and daughter-in-law were at a clinic. Her grandson too was playing in the building compound below and Munnidevi was alone at home.

Police sources said, two youths, posing as MGL employees, came knocking at Singh's house on the pretext of checking the gas meter's reading. A senior official from Ghatkopar police station said, "When Munnidevi asked for their ID cards, one of the youths sedated her by placing a chemical-laced cloth on her face. After she collapsed, the youths stole her ornaments and robbed goods worth R3 lakh from the house and fled. Munnidevi's son and daughter-in-law found her unconscious on returning home and after she narrated the incident, they came to Ghatkopar police station to file a complaint."

Senior Police inspector Vyankat Patil of Ghatkopar police station said, "We have registered a complaint on the basis of information provided by the Singh family. The robbers will be booked under Sections 392 (robbery), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. We are checking CCTVs in the building premises to nab the culprits."
