Mumbai Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi has written to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, requesting the allotment of a vacant official bungalow in the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan campus in Byculla.

In his letter, Ghadi said the accommodation would significantly reduce his daily travel time from Dahisar (East) to the BMC headquarters near Fort in South Mumbai and help him perform his official responsibilities more efficiently.

The Deputy Mayor has sought the bungalow that was previously occupied by former Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Ashwini Joshi before her transfer. According to the letter, the residence is currently vacant and is located close to the BMC headquarters.

Deputy Mayor cites traffic congestion and long travel time

In his communication to the Commissioner, Sanjay Ghadi said his daily commute between Dahisar (East) and the BMC headquarters at Fort takes a considerable amount of time and is frequently delayed due to heavy traffic congestion.

He stated that the long commute causes "mental and physical distress" and affects his ability to reach the civic headquarters on time for administrative meetings, seminars, public interactions and other official programmes.

Ghadi said the delays caused by traffic often disrupt his schedule and make it difficult to attend official engagements as planned. He added that being stationed closer to the BMC headquarters would help him carry out his responsibilities more effectively and improve coordination with civic officials.

Requests accommodation to improve official efficiency

In the letter, the Deputy Mayor said residing in an official bungalow near the civic headquarters would enable him to attend meetings and administrative programmes on time while ensuring quicker delivery of civic services to residents.

He argued that staying closer to the BMC headquarters would reduce travel-related delays and allow him to respond more efficiently to official commitments. The proximity to the headquarters, he said, would also help him remain readily available for meetings and other civic responsibilities that require his presence at short notice.

The requested bungalow is located within the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan campus in Byculla, a short distance from the BMC headquarters. Ghadi has urged the Commissioner to consider allotting the vacant residence to him as his official accommodation, stating that the move would support the effective discharge of his duties as Deputy Mayor.
