Central Railway services hit after man comes in contact with overhead wire at Ghatkopar station in Mumbai

Central Railway services were disrupted on Tuesday evening after a 30-year-old man climbed onto an overhead wire at Ghatkopar railway station, affecting train services on the fast line towards Kalyan.

The incident occurred on Platform 3 during the evening rush hour, causing delays to suburban and express trains on the Central Railway network.

According to preliminary information, the 6.33 pm local from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) was halted at Ghatkopar following the incident.

The train remained at the station until around 6.55 pm, resulting in a delay of approximately 22 minutes.

The incident also affected trains operating behind the local, with several services delayed as railway authorities responded to the situation and worked to restore normal operations.

Commuters face delays during peak hour

The disruption took place during one of the busiest periods of the day, affecting passengers travelling towards Kalyan and other destinations on the Central Railway suburban network.

With the affected line temporarily disrupted, delays had a cascading impact on services operating behind the halted train.

Railway authorities worked to manage train movements and restore normal services.

Man sustains 45 per cent burns

The man, aged 30, suffered 45 per cent burns after coming into contact with the overhead electrical equipment.

Dr Bharti Rajulwala, MS, of Rajawadi Hospital, said the man had suffered burns to his chest, abdomen and both hands.

"He has sustained 45 per cent burns. Right now he has been admitted to our hospital. He has burns on his chest, abdomen and both hands. He also has a CLW to his head. Further scans are awaited. If his condition worsens, he will be shifted to Sion Hospital," Dr Rajulwala said.

He is currently receiving treatment at Rajawadi Hospital, while doctors are monitoring his condition.

Railway services affected

The incident led to temporary disruption on the fast line towards Kalyan, with the impact extending to other services on the route.

The episode once again highlights the risks associated with unauthorised access to railway tracks and overhead electrical equipment, particularly in crowded suburban stations.
