Central Railway will introduce 10 more 15-car suburban train services on the Mumbai division from July 20, in a move aimed at reducing overcrowding on the city's busy local train network, officials said.

Instead of adding new services, CR will convert selected 12-car trains into 15-car trains, increasing passenger capacity and providing more space for commuters.

The upgrade includes five down services and five up services operating on key suburban routes.

Down services

The following trains will operate as 15-car services:

- Ambernath - 9:15 am

- Kalyan - 12:26 pm (rescheduled to depart at 12:27 pm)

- Badlapur - 3:03 pm

- Karjat - 6:21 pm

- Ambernath - 11:08 pm

Up services

The following trains will also be upgraded to 15-car services:

- Ambernath - 7:51 am

- Ambernath - 11:03 am (converted from a slow to a fast service)

- Kalyan - 1:36 pm

- Badlapur - 4:47 pm

- Karjat - 8:38 pm

Higher capacity for daily commuters

Central Railway said the conversion is expected to improve passenger distribution and increase the carrying capacity of trains operating on some of the busiest suburban corridors.

The move is intended to provide greater comfort for daily commuters who travel on Mumbai's heavily used Central Railway network, officials said.

No additional train services

Railway officials clarified that the announcement does not include any new suburban services. Instead, the existing 12-car trains are being upgraded to longer 15-car rakes to accommodate more passengers without altering the overall timetable significantly.
