In a routine inspection aimed at improving commuter amenities, Western Railway on Thursday sealed two food stalls at Borivali station after officials reported "unsatisfactory" food quality and hygiene conditions.

According to railway sources, the action was taken against M/s Choleshchand Tea Stall, located on Platforms 4/5, and Dilip Dilhoud Stall on Platforms 6/7. Both units were ordered to cease operations immediately until they comply with mandated standards.

Officials said the surprise checks are part of an ongoing drive across Mumbai's suburban network to ensure that vendors adhere to food safety norms, especially at high-footfall stations such as Borivali.

Daily inspections, they added, help maintain accountability and address long-standing commuter complaints about inconsistent quality. Mumbai railway authorities are expected to review the stalls' compliance reports before allowing them to resume service.
