Mumbai Police says no FIR against woman who confronted Girish Mahajan over Worli traffic

Police have clarified that no FIR has been registered against a woman who confronted Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan over a traffic jam caused by a political rally in Mumbai's Worli area earlier this week.

In a statement posted on X, the Mumbai Police said, "No FIR has been registered against the lady. We request everyone to verify facts from official channels before posting on social media and refrain from spreading misinformation."

The clarification came after reports circulated online suggesting legal action had been initiated against the woman.

Complaint Filed by Advocate's Daughter

According to police, a complaint was submitted on Wednesday by Zen Sadavarte, daughter of advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte, at the Worli police station.

In her complaint, Sadavarte alleged that the woman created a disturbance during the rally, used abusive language, and obstructed public proceedings. She also called for action under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to obstructing public servants and causing public mischief.

Incident During BJP Rally in Worli

The confrontation took place on Tuesday in Worli during a rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The event was held to protest the defeat of a Constitution Amendment Bill aimed at expediting the implementation of 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

During the rally, the woman approached Mahajan while he was speaking to reporters and expressed anger over road blockages and traffic congestion. She questioned why the gathering could not be held at a nearby open ground.

Mixed Reactions from Leaders

Mahajan later acknowledged that the woman's frustration was "justified to some extent," though he criticised her choice of words and ruled out pursuing legal action.

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to commuters due to the rally.

Case Registered Against Rally Organisers

Separately, police have registered a case against the rally organisers for alleged violations of norms, officials said.
