The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that Mumbai was likely to experience an early arrival of the monsoon this year and predicted that the city would witness seasonal rains in the next three days.
The weather department said that Mumbai was likely to witness the onset of the southwest monsoon within the next three days, as conditions continue to turn favourable for its further advance.
The IMD confirmed that the monsoon has already arrived in parts of the country and Mumbai would receive monsoon rains soon.
Mumbai has been recently witnessing pre-monsoon showers since last week. The city experienced heavy rains that began on Saturday night and continued on Sunday morning.

As the city await for the monsoon rains, here are five times the Mumbai has witnessed early monsoons.
According to the IMD records, in the year 1956, the early onset of monsoon was recorded on May 29.
In 1962, monsoon in Mumbai had began on May 29. The next early arrival of monsoon in city was recorded on May 29, 1971.
In 1990, Mumbai had recorded an early arrival of monsoon on May 31.
The city had last recorded the early arrival of monsoon on May 31, 2006.
The southwest monsoon has advanced into more parts of the west central and east central Arabian Sea, parts of Karnataka, the entire state of Goa, portions of Maharashtra, parts of the west central and north Bay of Bengal, and regions of Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland. The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Devgad, Belagavi, Haveri, Mandya, Dharmapuri, Chennai, and further northeast through Aizawl and Kohima.
"Conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of the central Arabian Sea, more areas of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Karnataka including Bengaluru, parts of Andhra Pradesh, remaining regions of Tamil Nadu, additional parts of the Bay of Bengal, and more areas of the Northeast during the next three days," the IMD stated.
Between May 25 and May 29, the IMD has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, and other districts of Maharashtra. These regions may also experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at isolated places.
