Reay Road and Titwala bridge to be inaugurated on Tuesday, here are key highlights of the two ROBs

Two newly built Road Over Bridges (ROBs)-- Reay Road and Titwala bridges are scheduled to be inaugurated on Tuesday evening making it a major step in easing the traffic congestion in Mumbai and Kalyan area respectively.

The two bridges will be inaugurated at 7 pm on May 13 by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The senior officials from the Railways, BMC, MMRDA, and PWD would also be present, officials said.

Ahead of the inauguration of the two ROBs here are key highlights of the bridges-

Mumbai's first cable-stayed road bridge

- Mumbai's Reay Road ROB is the first cable-stayed road bridge in Mumbai.

- The bridge is located between Reay Road and Dockyard Road stations on the Harbour Line.

- It has six lanes and measures 385 metres in length with two down ramps.

- It is built at a cost of Rs 266 crore and replaces an old British-era bridge.

- It connects Byculla and Mazgaon and features remotely controlled, decorative LED lighting.

- The bridge's design was created by Wiecon, a firm from Taiwan, and was reviewed by IIT Mumbai.

- Construction followed top-quality and safety standards under the supervision of Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC).

Titwala ROB

The second ROB is an 820 metres long at Titwala in Kalyan area of Thane district in Maharashtra.

- It is four lanes wide and connects Ambivili to Kalyan.

- It was built on the Kalyan-Igatpuri railway section for a cost of Rs 100.06 crore.

- The bridge includes service roads on both sides, making travel safer and quicker, especially during peak hours.

Ahead of the inauguration of the bridges, Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal, Managing Director of MahaRail said, "We are happy to inaugurate another two newly constructed ROBs. Reay Road ROB is Mumbai's first cable-stayed bridge, constructed by MahaRail. These ROBs are essential for enhancing connectivity, safety and efficiency of Mumbai's transportation network. MahaRail's ongoing projects reflects our commitment to improve state's infrastructure and support the government's goal of creating a "Railway Fatak Free" state."

He said, "MahaRail is constructing more than 200 Road Over Bridges (ROBs/RUBs) across Maharashtra and has commissioned 32 ROBs so far. MahaRail is on its way to setting a benchmark in Rail and Road infrastructure development of Maharashtra. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Ministry of Railways, BMC, MMRDA, PWD, MoRTH, MCGM, KDMC and other development authorities in Maharashtra for entrusting MahaRail with various projects. These projects will play a vital role in improving the overall economic development of the region."
