Mumbai Traffic Police on Tuesday announced a temporary road closure on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road in Ghatkopar for a Dahi Handi event on September 5, 2026.
According to a traffic notification, issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Eastern Suburb Traffic, the south channel of the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road between Shreyas Junction and Bhimnagar Junction will remain closed to all types of vehicles.
The restriction will be in force from 7am to 11.30pm on September 5.
The traffic police said a large Dahi Handi event is being organised at Tilak Wadi, Sainath Nagar, Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road, Ghatkopar (West).
The event is expected to affect traffic movement in the area, prompting the authorities to temporarily close the south channel of the busy link road.
The traffic police have advised motorists to use the prescribed alternative route during the closure.
Vehicles travelling from Shreyas Junction towards Asalpha and normally using the south channel of the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road will have to take an alternative route.
Motorists will be directed along the south channel of Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg before taking a right turn at Sarvodaya Junction.
From there, vehicles will proceed via Hirachand Desai Road towards Asalpha and then continue using the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road.
With the Dahi Handi event expected to attract a large gathering, motorists travelling through Ghatkopar, Asalpha and surrounding areas may face delays.
Traffic police personnel are expected to assist with traffic management and implement the diversion during the closure.
Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use the alternative route to avoid inconvenience.

The procession will begin at Zama Masjid, Chirag Nagar, Ghatkopar (West), at 1pm and will conclude at Anandgarh Junction, Parksite, Vikhroli (West).
The traffic restrictions will remain in force from 1pm on August 26 until the procession concludes.
The traffic police have ordered a ban on the entry of all types of heavy vehicles, including private buses, ST buses and BEST buses, except emergency vehicles, from Premier Junction, LBS Marg, Kurla (W), and Gandhi Nagar Junction, Powai.
The restriction will remain in place from 1pm until the Eid-e-Milad procession concludes.
