BMC announces water cut in Mumbai's Mulund and Bhandup; parts of Thane to also be affected for 24 hrs on Jan 27-28

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday announced a 24-hour water supply disruption in parts of Mumbai including Mulund (West) and Bhandup (West). Supply in Thane city will also be affected on January 27-28, officials said.

The Mumbai water cut is due to repair and pipeline shifting work on the Vaitarna water supply system, they said.

According to the Mumbai civic body, the work will be carried out from 10 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to 10 am on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

It said that the work involves the following -

- Shifting 12 water connections from a 2,400 mm diameter Vaitarna pipeline to a 2,750 mm Upper Vaitarna main

- Installing an iron cover on the Vaitarna water pipeline at Khindipada in Bhandup (West)

Areas affected in Mumbai

The Mumbai civic body officials said that the water supply will remain suspended in parts of the T Ward (Mulund West) and S Ward (Bhandup West) during the repair period. The areas that would be affected include -

- T Ward (Mulund West)

- Amar Nagar, Garkachawl, Jai Shastri Nagar, Panchsheel Nagar

- Hanuman Pada, Rahul Nagar, Mulund Colony

- Malabar Hill Road, Swapnanagari, Veena Nagar

- Yogi Hill, Model Town Road, B.R. Road

- Vaishali Nagar, Ghatipada and areas along Guru Gobind Singh Road

Other parts of T Ward including areas along LBS Road, Mulund-Goregaon Link Road, Nahurgaon, and several adjoining areas will also be affected. The areas include -

- S Ward (Bhandup West)

- Lower Khindipada

- Upper Khindipada

Water Cut in Thane City

The civic also said that some parts of the adjoining Thane city will also face a water supply shutdown during the works. These areas include -

- Kisan Nagar (East)

- Kisan Nagar (West)

- Bhatwadi

Civic body appeals to citizens

The BMC has urged residents to store sufficient water in advance and use water carefully during the shutdown period.

The civic officials also suggested that the citizens must boil and filter drinking water for a few days as a precaution.

The civic body has appealed for public cooperation while the essential repair work is carried out.
