In a unique early morning civic inspection aimed at promoting sustainability and ensuring better ground-level governance, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) chief Dr Kailas Shinde on Saturday conducted a bicycle inspection tour across several parts of Belapur and Nerul along with senior officials of the civic body.

The three-hour inspection, held between 6 am and 9 am, was undertaken in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent appeal to citizens in the backdrop of the West Asian crisis and the Maharashtra government's advisory encouraging fuel conservation and environmentally conscious practices.

Starting from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk in Nerul Sector 1, the civic team cycled through Shirvane, Sarsole, Kukshet, Karave, Jewel of Navi Mumbai, Seawoods railway flyover, Parsik Hill and Agroli, reviewing key civic infrastructure and public amenities on the ground.

During the tour, the commissioner reviewed sanitation, public toilets, gardens, cycle tracks, markets and pump houses, while stopping at several locations to issue spot instructions to officials. He directed authorities to improve cleanliness in gaothan areas such as Shirvane, Sarsole, Kukshet and Karave and ensure that adjoining sector areas are also maintained properly.

Dr Shinde also instructed officials to upgrade Chincholi Garden at Shirvane-Juinagar and maintain all public toilets at the same standard as the well-maintained facility there. He suggested relocating a toilet structure near the Palm Beach Road-Wazirani Sports corner slightly backwards for better convenience.

Civic officials said the cycle tour sent out a message promoting fitness, sustainability and direct on-ground governance.
