Two trekkers from Mumbai were killed and 19 others, including the driver, were injured after a bus carrying a group of trekkers plunged into a gorge at Pabe Ghat near Rajgad in the early hours of June 28, Rural police said.
The accident occurred around 1 am when the bus, carrying 22 employees of a private company based in the SEEPZ Special Economic Zone in Andheri East, reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp bend at Pabe Ghat and veered into the gorge. The group was travelling to Rajgad Fort for a weekend trek.

Police, rescue teams and residents rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The bus was pulled out of the gorge using a JCB machine, while the injured were rescued and shifted to Velhe Rural Hospital for treatment. Police said the two victims died on the spot, while 19 others sustained injuries. Their condition is being monitored, and further investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
Residents again raised concerns over the safety of roads in the Rajgad region. They alleged that despite funds being sanctioned for crash barriers at accident-prone bends in Pabe Ghat, Kadve Ghat and nearby stretches, the work remains incomplete.

Baburao Satim, Vishwas' Father
"He told his mother he would call on Sunday afternoon to let us know if he would be home for dinner. Instead, we are receiving his mortal remains. I had a feeling he should not go on the trip, but I did not stop him."
Sanket Nimbare, Vishwas' friend
"Before he left, we jokingly told him not to go because of recent bad news involving Pune tourists. Maybe we should have been serious."
Rushikesh Dashrath Satim, Vishwas' cousin
"We grew up together and were of the same age. He was passionate about cricket and was a champion in our village. Even recently, we used to play cricket together every weekend. I heard this tragic news about his death around 11 am and we are waiting for his mortal remains since."
