Traffic heading towards Mumbai on the Hindu Hriday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg will face three one-hour closures daily between October 26 and November 6, 2026, as authorities carry out safety work to prevent rocks and debris from falling onto the highway.
The restrictions will apply to the stretch between Bharveer Interchange and Igatpuri Interchange. The work will involve installing protective netting near a tunnel entrance and along vulnerable mountain slopes to reduce the risk of falling rocks endangering motorists.
According to the schedule approved by the Highway Police, vehicles travelling towards Mumbai will be stopped from 10 am to 11 am, 1 pm to 2 pm, and 4 pm to 5 pm each day.
The traffic blocks will remain in force throughout the scheduled period, from October 26 to November 6. The temporary closures are intended to provide a safe working window for crews carrying out slope protection measures.
Motorists using the affected stretch have been advised to plan their journeys around the scheduled closures and allow extra time for travel.
The protective netting is intended to contain loose rocks and debris on vulnerable slopes, reducing the risk of them falling onto the highway and improving safety for vehicles travelling through the hilly section.
Commuters heading towards Mumbai during the affected dates should account for possible delays and check traffic advisories before starting their journeys.
