Tata Mumbai Marathon: Mumbai Police issue advisory; traffic curbs on Coastal Road, Sea Link and key routes, check details

Ahead of the Tata Mumbai Marathon, Mumbai Police on Wednesday issued a advisory and list of traffic curbs at Mumbai Coastal Road, Bandra-Worli Sea Link and key routes in parts of the city.

In a traffic notification, Mumbai Traffic Police announced extensive traffic diversions, road closures, and parking restrictions across South and Central Mumbai for the Tata Mumbai Marathon, scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

The annual Mumbai Marathon will feature seven different race categories, including the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 km Run, Elite Race, Champion with Disability Run, Senior Citizens' Run, and Dream Run. Thousands of runners are expected to participate, police said.

The Marathon route goes through South and Central Mumbai from Azad Maidan, Kalbadevi, D.N. Marg, Tardeo, Worli, Bandra, Dadar and Mahim traffic division.

Full Marathon (42.195 km - Amateurs): 5:00 am to 12:30 pm

Half Marathon (21.097 km): 5:00 am to 9:10 am

10 km Timed Run: 6:00 am to 8:00 am

Elite Marathon Race: 7:00 am to 10:30 am

Champion with Disability Run: 7:05 am to 7:45 am

Senior Citizens' Run: 7:25 am to 8:45 am

Dream Run: 8:15 am to 11:00 am

"Most races will start from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) or nearby locations and pass through Marine Drive, Worli Sea Face, Coastal Road, and Bandra-Worli Sea Link areas," the police said.

Full Marathon (42.195 km):
For the Full Marathon, traffic restrictions will be in place from 5:00 am to 12:30 pm on January 18. The race will start from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and finish at Mumbai Gymkhana. The marathon route will pass through major South and Central Mumbai roads including D.N. Road, Veer Nariman Road, Madame Cama Road, Marine Drive, Tardeo, Peddar Road, Worli Sea Face, Dr Annie Besant Road, Coastal Road, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Mahim, Shivaji Park and Siddhivinayak Temple, before returning towards South Mumbai. Several carriageways along the route will be closed to regular vehicular traffic during the race hours, while emergency services will be permitted.

Half Marathon (21.097 km):
Traffic curbs for the Half Marathon will be enforced from 6:00 am to 9:10 am. The race will begin from the Mahim Reti Bunder Ground, proceed via Mahim Causeway and Swami Vivekananda Road, and move towards Bandra and Worli. Runners will pass through Worli Sea Face, Dr Annie Besant Road, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road, Coastal Road, Haji Ali, Tardeo and Marine Drive, before finishing at Mumbai Gymkhana. Commuters are advised to avoid these routes during the specified hours and use alternate roads or public transport.

Road closures and no-entry zones

To ensure the safety of runners, several major roads will remain closed to regular traffic from 3:00 am to 2:00 pm on 18 January 2026, except for emergency and essential service vehicles.

Under the ‘No Entry' order, traffic restrictions will be enforced on key roads including M.G. Road, Veer Nariman Road, Madam Cama Road, K.B. Patil Marg, D.N. Road, Walchand Hirachand Marg, Cooperage Road, Maharshi Karve Road, Dorabji Tata Road, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, Walkeshwar Road, Hughes Road, Pandita Ramabai Marg (southbound) and several stretches of Gopalrao Deshmukh Marg, among others. Specific junctions such as Hutatma Chowk, Regal Junction, Air India Junction, Churchgate Junction, CSMT area, Mafatlal Junction, Cadbury Junction, Gamadia Junction, and Kemps Corner will also see traffic restrictions during the marathon hours.

According to the traffic notification, large sections of South Mumbai, Worli, Mahim, and Bandra will also be declared No Vehicular Zones during the marathon hours.

No parking restrictions

Parking of all types of vehicles will be strictly prohibited from 4:00 am to 2:00 pm on marathon day on roads including M.G. Road, D.N. Road, Marine Drive, Veer Nariman Road, Pedder Road, Worli Sea Face Road, Dr Annie Besant Road, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road, Bandra-Worli Sea Link approach roads.

"Designated Pay-and-Park facilities will be available at select BMC parking locations, malls, and open grounds," the police said.

Emergency services

Ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, police vehicles, and essential service vehicles carrying milk, gas, and vegetables will be allowed to move along the marathon route when required.

Public Advisory

The Traffic Police have advised citizens to avoid using private vehicles, prefer local trains and public transport and plan their travel well in advance.

The police have asked citizens to follow traffic police instructions and signages.

"The traffic restrictions are temporary and will remain in force until the completion of the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2026 on Sunday," the traffic notification said.
