Thane RTO agent duped of Rs 11 lakh with fake government job promise for son; two booked

Police have registered a case against two persons for allegedly cheating a 60-year-old RTO agent from Maharashtra's Thane district of Rs 11 lakh by promising a government job for his son, officials said on Sunday.

As reported by PTI, the accused approached the victim, a resident of the Ulhasnagar township, last year and offered to secure a job in the Income Tax (I-T) department for his son. They demanded Rs 11 lakh for the purpose, an official said.

However, after receiving the money, the accused failed to deliver on their promise. When asked about the job, the accused brushed it off, informing the victim that they would instead get his son a job in the Directorate of Health Services at Nashik.

Accused manipulated the victim by showing him a fabricated selection list.

To gain the victim's trust, the accused also showed him a fabricated selection list of the health services department. As the promised employment did not materialize, the victim inquired about the status. The accused gave evasive replies, neither providing the promised job nor returning the money taken from him.

Based on the victim's complaint, the police registered a case against the two accused on July 16 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 318(4) (cheating), 336(3) (forgery), 335 (making a false document), 340(1) and 340(2) (fraudulently or dishonestly using as genuine any document or electronic record), and 3(5) (common intention), the official added.

8 booked for duping 130 job aspirants of Rs 52.68 lakh in overseas job scam in Thane

In a separate incident, more than 130 job aspirants were allegedly cheated of Rs 52.68 lakh by a recruitment agency in Maharashtra's Thane district after being promised overseas employment, police said on Friday. The agency allegedly collected money and passports from candidates but failed to arrange the promised jobs before shutting down its operations.

Police have registered a case against eight persons associated with the recruitment agency and launched an investigation to trace the accused.

Recruitment agency allegedly promised overseas jobs

According to police, the alleged fraud took place between January and May this year and involved a recruitment agency operating under the name Al-Limra International in Kalyan, a Mumbai resident approached the Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station with a complaint alleging that the agency lured job seekers by promising lucrative employment opportunities abroad.

The complainant alleged that candidates were asked to pay substantial amounts of money and submit their passports as part of the recruitment process. However, the promised jobs never materialised.
