The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation's (MBMC) Water Supply and Sanitation Department has issued a strong public appeal urging citizens to conserve water amid growing concerns over reduced rainfall and the impact of El Nino conditions.
In its advisory, the civic body noted that monsoon rainfall patterns have remained below expectations in several regions, leading to stress on water reserves.
It warned that if water is not used judiciously, the situation could worsen in the coming months, particularly during peak summer demand.
The corporation highlighted that reservoirs and local water sources are under pressure due to insufficient inflows. Citizens have been urged to immediately adopt water-saving habits to ensure equitable distribution and avoid shortages.
The MBMC has called on residents to avoid wastage of drinking water and adopt simple conservation measures in daily routines. It has stressed the importance of fixing leaking taps and pipes at the earliest to prevent unnecessary loss of water.
Residents have also been advised not to wash vehicles with open hoses and instead use buckets or controlled water usage methods. Similarly, citizens are encouraged to ensure taps are turned off properly after use and to avoid leaving water running unnecessarily.
The advisory further urges people to avoid excessive use of water for cleaning, gardening, and other non-essential activities. It recommends reusing water wherever possible for secondary purposes.
The civic body has also appealed to societies and housing complexes to monitor water consumption and ensure strict adherence to conservation practices. Special emphasis has been placed on preventing misuse in public spaces and community facilities.
Officials cautioned that continued negligence could lead to stricter restrictions in water supply if conditions do not improve. The MBMC has appealed for collective responsibility from citizens, stating that every drop of water saved will contribute to easing the pressure on the city's supply system.
The civic administration reiterated that sustainable water usage is essential in light of current climatic conditions and urged residents to cooperate fully with conservation efforts.
