Security was tightened in and around the district court complex in Punjab's Ferozepur on Wednesday after the premises received a bomb threat, two days before Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to attend an Independence Day function in the area.
Police evacuated the court complex and launched an extensive search operation after receiving the threat. However, no suspicious object or material was found during the checks, officials said.
The threat prompted the deployment of multiple security teams as authorities conducted searches of the court premises and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure.
Acting on the threat, police asked people to leave the court premises and temporarily suspended court proceedings.
Teams from the bomb disposal squad and dog squad carried out a detailed search of the complex and adjoining areas. The searches were aimed at checking the premises for any explosive device or other suspicious material.
Court proceedings have been suspended until 1 pm as a precautionary measure, officials said.
The authorities have maintained heightened security in the area while the threat is being assessed.
Cantt police station SHO Sukhbir Singh said security personnel conducted a thorough search of the court complex but did not find any suspicious or objectionable material.
The officer said security personnel had been deployed around the premises and that necessary precautions were being taken to prevent any untoward incident.
Police officials have not immediately disclosed details about the nature or source of the threat.
The search operation was conducted as a precaution despite the absence of any suspicious object during the initial checks.
Wednesday's threat is the third bomb threat received by the Ferozepur district court complex this year, according to officials.
The repeated threats have prompted security agencies to respond with precautionary searches and heightened security arrangements at the premises.
Authorities are expected to examine the latest threat to determine its source and whether it was intended to disrupt court proceedings or create a security scare.
No information was immediately available on whether anyone had been detained or questioned in connection with the threat.
The latest security alert comes two days before the Independence Day celebrations in Ferozepur.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to hoist the national flag during the Independence Day function on August 15 at a site located behind the district court complex.
The proximity of the scheduled event to the court premises has led security agencies to maintain heightened vigilance in the area.
