Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday said his meeting with members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) was 'fine', a day after the delegation submitted a memorandum outlining its demands linked to the ongoing protest over alleged irregularities in the NEET (UG) 2026 examination.
Two representatives of the CJP met Nadda at his residence on Monday after holding discussions earlier in the day. The delegation later submitted a written memorandum listing its three key demands, reported IANS.
Speaking to reporters while arriving for the NDA's 'Mangal Milan' programme, Nadda briefly commented on the meeting.
"It went well. It (a meeting) always goes well," he said.
However, the Union Minister declined to comment on whether any assurances had been given to the protesters regarding their demands.
The first round of discussions began at around 11:50 am, during which the CJP delegation presented its demands verbally. Nadda reportedly asked the representatives to submit them in writing, reported IANS.
At around 4 pm, the delegation, represented by Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, returned with a written memorandum.
The CJP demanded:
The unconditional release of activist Sonam Wangchuk without restrictions on his movement.
The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET 2026 paper leak controversy.
According to IANS, the government sources said Nadda did not provide any assurances on the three demands during the meeting.
However, he urged the protesters to withdraw their month-long sit-in at Jantar Mantar and cooperate with the administration in restoring normalcy around the high-security Parliament area.
Following the meeting, Nadda also posted on X, saying the discussions were held in a cordial atmosphere. He noted that the CJP had approached the government seeking dialogue and confirmed that the delegation submitted its written memorandum after extensive discussions.
Despite the talks, protesters continued their sit-in at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, a day after violent clashes erupted during the 'Sansad Chalo' march.
After police removed the stage and tents from the protest site, demonstrators reoccupied the area. Following the CJP's call to continue the agitation, supporters began gathering at Jantar Mantar early Tuesday morning.
A heavy deployment of Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel remained in place to maintain law and order.
The clashes broke out on Monday when thousands of CJP supporters and students attempted to march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister over recurring examination irregularities, including the alleged NEET-UG paper leaks.
Delhi Police have intensified their investigation into the violence and are relying extensively on digital evidence to identify those involved.
Investigators are examining more than 250 videos, including mobile phone recordings, CCTV footage, drone visuals and footage captured by police body-worn cameras.
Meanwhile, police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Connaught Place Police Station in connection with the violence and alleged vandalism reported during the protest.
