Heavy rainfall is likely across several parts of India on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rain in northwest, central, eastern, northeastern, western and peninsular regions.
According to the latest IMD forecast issued on Friday night, several areas are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in parts of the country. The weather department has advised people to exercise caution in areas prone to waterlogging, flooding and other rain-related disruptions.
In northern India, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are also likely to receive widespread rainfall on Saturday.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan. East Rajasthan is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
The forecast comes a day after torrential rain affected Delhi and the National Capital Region, causing widespread waterlogging, traffic disruptions and several emergency incidents.
In eastern India, widespread rainfall is expected over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Odisha has been issued a warning for very heavy rainfall on August 8, while Bihar is also likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall.
The northeastern region is expected to remain wet as well, with heavy rainfall forecast at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, along with other parts of the region.
The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several areas as weather conditions remain unsettled across the country.
In western India, widespread rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa. Parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat may also receive rain during the day.
The forecast indicates that several areas could experience intense spells, particularly where heavy rainfall is expected. Localised waterlogging and disruption to road movement are possible in vulnerable areas if rainfall remains persistent.
Southern and peninsular India are also expected to receive significant rainfall. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on August 8, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations.
Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely over parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The weather department has separately advised fishermen against venturing into several sea areas, including along and off the coasts of Oman, Karnataka and Kerala, due to adverse weather conditions.
Meanwhile, torrential rain lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region on Friday, flooding roads, disrupting traffic and triggering multiple emergency incidents across the region.
South Delhi's MB Road witnessed severe waterlogging, particularly near the Air Force Station, where water reportedly reached nearly four feet. The flooding left several vehicles stranded and caused major traffic disruptions in the area.
Several motorcycles and autorickshaws reportedly stalled after entering flooded stretches. Air Force trucks were also used to assist movement through some inundated areas.
Traffic remained slow on several major routes, including ITO, Patel Road, Rohtak Road, Wazirabad Road, Kirti Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, the Delhi-Jaipur Highway and areas around Badarpur Border Metro Station.
Flooded subways and submerged stretches of road further added to commuters' difficulties as heavy rain affected movement across several parts of the national capital and adjoining areas.
