The Delhi BJP will stage simultaneous protests outside the residences of 22 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs on Monday over their opposition to the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana in the Assembly, a party leader said.
Delhi BJP General Secretary ML Gihara will coordinate the simultaneous protests, which are scheduled to begin at 8 am outside the residences of the AAP MLAs, the leader said in a statement on Sunday, reported IANS.
According to IANS, the decision to organise the protests came as Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor accused AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Saurabh Bharadwaj of showing signs of political frustration and making irresponsible statements merely to remain in the news.
Kapoor said development works being undertaken by the Chief Minister Rekha Gupta-led BJP government, along with schemes being implemented for women and girls, had weakened the AAP's political standing in the national capital.
He claimed that surveys predicting the AAP's defeat in the upcoming Punjab elections had triggered what he described as "the lowest level of politics" by the party leadership, IANS reported.
"Their political language has completely lost all decorum," he added.
The Delhi BJP spokesperson also referred to a post by Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on social media platform X, in which he alleged that AAP Delhi Convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Sanjeev Jha had made "false and baseless allegations" against the Delhi government during a press conference.
Sirsa claimed that people in Delhi no longer had faith in AAP leaders.
"There has been no scam in the Delhi government. I strongly warn Saurabh Bharadwaj and Sanjeev Jha to stop their politics of lies and deceit and apologise, or be prepared to face legal action," he said.
Kapoor said AAP leaders, including Kejriwal and Bharadwaj, should apologise to the BJP and the Delhi government, failing which, he claimed, voters in Delhi, Punjab and across the country would "teach them a political lesson".
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, which has been opposed by AAP MLAs, had received more than 5,14,460 registrations on the scheme's portal till Saturday afternoon.
Under the scheme, eligible women beneficiaries will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month.
Women from the North-East and North-West districts were reported to be leading the surge in registrations.
