The civic authorities in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-drought-updates-congress-leader-wadettiwar-demands-immediate-release-of-funds-in-pending-namo-kisan-payments-23655422" rel="nofollow">Maharashtra's Latur</a> have cut off 34 unauthorised water connections along a major supply pipeline carrying water from the Manjara dam to the city.&nbsp;
The Latur civic body has also warned of strict action against illegal water pumping, officials said on Monday.
Officials said the joint crackdown by civic, revenue, and police teams across Latur and Dharashiv districts was aimed at curbing water theft and wastage, as per PTI.&nbsp;
The action was carried out on Sunday under the directions of Latur Collector Dr Bharat Bastewad and municipal commissioner Rahul Kulkarni after a large number of illegal connections were detected along the main water supply line. As per the officials, the pipes used for unauthorised water extraction were also seized by the authorities.&nbsp;
<h2>Civic body warns about action on illegal pumping from lakes</h2>
The Latur civic administration has also warned against<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-drought-updates-shiv-sena-ubt-announces-rs-50000-aid-for-families-of-four-farmers-who-died-by-suicide-in-chandrapur-23655418" rel="nofollow"> unauthorised water extraction </a>from the main supply pipeline and illegal pumping from lakes and said that the inspection drive would be intensified across the city.
Amid the drought situation, the administration has also appealed to residents to use water judiciously, regularise unauthorised connections and cooperate with the authorities to ensure an uninterrupted water supply to the city.&nbsp;
<h2>Sunetra Pawar orders urgent relief measures&nbsp;</h2>
<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/maharashtra-drought-updates-deputy-cm-sunetra-pawar-reviews-situation-in-beed-orders-for-urgent-relief-measures-23655605" rel="nofollow">Maharashtra Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar</a> earlier on Saturday, October 17, also reviewed the severe drought situation in Beed district. Pawar directed the officials to take urgent steps to provide relief to farmers and residents facing crop losses, drinking water shortages and a lack of fodder for livestock, an official statement said.&nbsp;
During a review meeting at the District Collector's Office, Sunetra Pawar, who is also Beed district guardian minister, &nbsp;asked officials to speed up crop damage assessments, ensure transparency in crop insurance claims and prioritise drinking water supplies. The district is currently receiving water through 225 tankers, according to information shared at the meeting.
A prolonged break in rainfall has left crops damaged and created serious concerns over water availability and livestock fodder in the district.
Sunetra Pawar directed officials to complete crop damage assessments promptly and accelerate further action once the reports are received. She also instructed agriculture and revenue officials to ensure accuracy and transparency throughout the crop insurance process.
