A 74-year-old man allegedly drowned in a swimming pool in Nagpur city of Maharashtra on Sunday morning during one of his regular swimming sessions, an official said, reported the PTI.
The deceased was identified as Jayant Narayan Kaware, a resident of Atre Layout in Nagpur district, the official said.
According to the officials, he went to the NIT (Nagpur Improvement Trust) Swimming Pool on North Ambazari Road at around 9.45 am. However, his health deteriorated while swimming, and he went under the water, according to the PTI.
There were some people present at the spot when the incident took place on Sunday morning and those present at the pool pulled Kaware out and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared the septuagenarian dead, said the official from Bajaj Nagar police station, as per the PTI.
Police suspect Kaware suffered a cardiac arrest during the swimming session, the official said, adding that they have registered an accidental death report (ADR) in the matter and launched a probe into his death, an official said on Sunday.
This is the second such incident at the pool in the past year, according to locals, the news agency reported.
Teen drowns in river while swimming in Maharashtra's Thane district
Meanwhile, in an another incident on Sunday, a 14-year-old boy reportedly drowned while swimming with his friends in the Kamwari River in Maharashtra's Thane district, a fire official said on Sunday, reported the PTI.
The victim was later identified as Suraj Tiwari. He was a resident of Bhiwandi town in Thane district, the official said, as per the PTI.
The boy had had ventured into the river along with his friends reportedly for a swim when he drowned in the river, the official further stated.
The authorities were alerted regarding the incident which rushed to the spot.
Local police and firemen launched a search operation, and the body was recovered on Sunday evening, the official said, according to the PTI.
The police have registered a case of accidental death (ADR) in the matter, he said, adding that further investigations were on going.
