Five people, including four women, were killed and four others sustained injuries after a speeding truck collided with a car carrying wedding guests in Maharashtra's Bhandara district, police said on Friday, reported PTI.

The accident occurred around 9 pm on Thursday in Adyal village on a state highway in Pouni taluka, an official said.

He said that the victims were returning from a wedding in Kondha when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction crashed into their car, reported PTI.

Five people, including a couple and a mother-daughter duo, were killed, while four other occupants sustained injuries in the crash, the official said.

The police have arrested the truck driver, Durgesh Yadav (40), a native of Chhattisgarh, and a case has been registered against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and the Motor Vehicles Act, reported PTI.

Food delivery agent killed in road accident in Mumbai; FIR registered

In another incident, a food delivery agent was killed in a road accident involving an autorickshaw and a truck in Mumbai in the early hours of Thursday, police said, reported PTI.

The accident occurred near a bus stop on the Western Express Highway and the deceased was identified as Akhilesh Chowdhary Kamat, an official from the Vakola Police Station said, reported PTI.

Kamat, who worked for online food delivery aggregator Zomato, was on way to complete an order when his motorcycle was knocked down by a speeding autorickshaw. He fell on the road and was run over by a truck, the official said, reported PTI.

Locals rushed the injured victim to VN Desai Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. Both autorickshaw and truck drivers fled the spot, turning the accident into a hit-and-run case, police said, reported PTI.

The food delivery agent was residing with his cousin in Mumbai Central, and his family members were informed about the accident, the official said.

Police are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicles involved in the accident, reported PTI.

An FIR was registered against unidentified drivers under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence), and further investigation was underway, the official added.
