In a major administrative development, 2007-batch IAS officer Naval Kishore Ram has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday.
The Maharashtra State Government's General Administration Department issued an official order on 21 May, directing him to assume charge on 31 May 2025, following the retirement of the current Commissioner, Dr Rajendra Bhosale.
Naval Kishore Ram hails from Motihari village in East Champaran district of Bihar. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 2007. His first posting was in Nanded, and he later worked with the Zilla Parishad in Yavatmal for two years. He served as District Collector in Beed and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad).
In 2020, Ram was appointed as the District Collector of Pune, where he played a vital role during the Covid-19 pandemic, personally visiting villages and overseeing ground-level implementation of health and relief measures. His proactive leadership earned him national recognition, and he was honoured as one of the best District Collectors in the country.

Due to his exceptional administrative track record, he was later appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Central deputation.
Now returning from deputation, Ram has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading one of Maharashtra's most prominent municipal bodies. His return has been welcomed by many, with officials and citizens alike expressing confidence in his disciplined approach and deep understanding of public administration.
Pune is now set to benefit from a seasoned officer whose leadership has consistently delivered results in challenging times.
