Vice-Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, AVSM, NM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command (WNC), on Tuesday addressed the media ahead of Navy Day 2025. The press conference was held at the newly inaugurated ‘Sumeru' tower at the Western Naval Command Officers Mess in Mumbai on Monday.

Navy Day, observed on December 4 each year, marks the Indian Navy's successful attack on Karachi during the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, an operation that inflicted significant damage on enemy assets and remains a defining moment in India's maritime history.

While addressing the media on Tuesday, Vice-Admiral Swaminathan discussed the dynamic regional security landscape while also highlighting the WNC's continuous deployment of ships, submarines and aircraft to protect national interests in the maritime domain.

He also discussed some of the key achievements of the Indian Navy throughout the year, including Operation Sindoor. During the press conference, Indian Navy's mission-based deployments, exercises with friendly foreign navies, and operations focused on security, safety, humanitarian assistance, anti-narcotics, anti-piracy, and disaster relief were highlighted during the press conference.

Furthermore, the Commander-in-Chief also emphasised that India's economic growth, strategic autonomy and national power are strongly linked to the seas.

"In view of shifting geopolitical and geo-economic trends. The need for constant vigilance to ensure the nation's security," he further stressed.

Highlighting the Indian Navy's vision of being a "Combat Ready, Cohesive, Atmanirbhar Force", Vice-Admiral Swaminathan also said that the navy continues to play a central role in maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.

As the "First Responder and Preferred Security Partner", the navy is committed to safeguarding the seas and supporting the nation's aspirations for a Viksit Samriddha Bharat, he added.
