The controversy surrounding the alleged NEET-UG paper leak has been intensifying in recent weeks. On Thursday, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi cited the death of a medical aspirant, Akanksha, while criticising the Centre's handling of alleged irregularities in the entrance examination system.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday posted on social media platform X and launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He slammed the BJP government and the Prime Minister after the death of an NEET aspirant came to light, saying that an entire generation of youth is paying the price for the extent to which the PM has allegedly "ruined" the education system over the past 12 years.

LoP expressing grief over the death of a NEET aspirant, said, "She wanted to become a doctor and serve the nation and society. Her father is a farmer. To fulfil his daughter's dream of becoming a doctor, he took a loan of Rs 3 lakh on a Kisan Credit Card. And he took up a job as a cook in Nagpur so that his daughter could attend coaching there."

Gandhi's attack on the Modi government came after reports said a NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district allegedly died by suicide in Nagpur after reportedly falling into depression following reports of irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, as per PTI.

Expressing grief over the death of the NEET aspirant, Gandhi said, "A father did everything humanly possible. Then, the NEET paper leaked. The examination was cancelled. Amidst that uncertainty, she left us forever."

He also alleged that her death was not an accident- it is the tragic outcome of a corrupt and broken system under Prime Minister Modi.

Slamming Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, Rahul added, "And Mr Dharmendra Pradhan? He remains firmly seated in his position even today. The same old committees. The same old transfers. The same old enquiries. No reform; no justice," according to PTI.

"Mr Modi, power is not permanent - it comes and goes. "But an entire generation of India's youth is now paying the price for the extent to which you have ruined the education system over the past 12 years," he added.

The NEET (UG) 2026 exam held on May 3 by the National Testing Agency (NTA) was cancelled on May 12 amid allegations of a paper leak, which is now being probed by the CBI.

A NEET-UG re-examination has been scheduled for June 21.
