Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "university" from which one can continue to learn, while praising his leadership at an event in Nagpur marking Modi's 76th birthday, reported the PTI.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya' event, Fadnavis said he had many experiences of working with Modi.

Asked about his experience while working with the PM, Fadnavis said, "There are many experiences. But I can say that PM Modi is like a kind of university from which you can keep learning continuously."

CM Fadnavis said PM Modi had taken India to new heights and expressed confidence that the Prime Minister would help realise the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat', or developed India.

He also described PM Modi as a highly popular leader in India and abroad, and said the Prime Minister had connected with different sections of society, the news agency reported.

Fadnavis also referred to PM Modi's more than 25 years as head of a government.

PM Modi first became Gujarat chief minister in October 2001 and became Prime Minister in 2014. He reached the milestone of 25 years at the head of an elected government in 2026.

The ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya' programme was held as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyaan' being conducted in Maharashtra and other parts of the country to mark PM Modi's birthday.

Fadnavis said he had joined around 500 beneficiaries in Nagpur to light diyas as a gesture of blessing for the Prime Minister.

PM Modi, in a message on his birthday, also acknowledged the ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya' initiative and thanked people for their affection and blessings, the news agency reported.

Modi turns 76

PM Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar, Gujarat, and turned 76 on Thursday.

His political career as head of government began with his appointment as Gujarat chief minister in 2001, followed by his tenure as Prime Minister from 2014 onwards. In June 2026, the Union government said PM Modi had become India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister in terms of continuous tenure.
