A senior army officer allegedly assaulted four members of the SpiceJet ground staff at Srinagar airport in Jammu and Kashmir, the airlines said, according to the PTI.

SpiceJet stated that the incident took place on July 26, leaving one of its staffers with a spinal fracture and others with serious injuries.

An FIR has been filed with local authorities, and the airline has initiated steps to place the individual on the no-fly list in accordance with civil aviation rules.

According to the airline, the incident occurred at the boarding gate for flight SG-386 bound for Delhi, after the passenger was asked to pay for excess cabin baggage. He was reportedly carrying two bags weighing 16 kilograms, more than double the permitted 7-kilogram allowance, reported the PTI.

The passenger allegedly became aggressive after being informed of the charge and attempted to forcefully board the aircraft without completing the boarding procedure -- a violation of aviation security norms.

A CISF officer intervened and escorted him back to the gate, where the situation escalated.

SpiceJet stated that the individual launched a violent attack, punching and kicking multiple staff members and using a queue stand as a weapon. One employee reportedly lost consciousness on the floor but continued to be kicked by the assailant. Another suffered bleeding from the nose and mouth due to a forceful kick to the jaw while trying to assist the collapsed colleague, as per the PTI.

All injured staff were taken to hospital and are undergoing treatment. CCTV footage of the incident has been secured and handed over to police.

SpiceJet has written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, seeking stringent action against the assailant and has vowed to pursue the matter to its legal and regulatory conclusion.

In a separate incident, IndiGo imposed a flying ban on a passenger who slapped a fellow traveller onboard a flight from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday.

The incident occurred in the flight 6E138 and after landing, the perpetrator was handed over to the security authorities at the Kolkata airport, the source said.

The perpetrator was also declared as unruly by the airline, the source added.
