Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is expected to undertake his first official visit to New Delhi later this month following the formation of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government in the state, reported IANS.
According to IANS, the two-day visit is likely to take place either during the third or final week of May, after the proposed expansion of the Tamil Nadu Cabinet expected after May 18.
The visit is expected to mark Vijay's first formal interaction with the Union leadership since assuming office as Chief Minister after the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Vijay is expected to hold meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu as part of customary engagements undertaken by newly elected chief ministers, reported IANS.
Apart from these meetings, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is also likely to meet Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Government sources indicated that the meetings would focus on administrative coordination between the state and the Centre, along with discussions on financial and infrastructure-related issues concerning Tamil Nadu, reported IANS.
According to officials familiar with the preparations, the Tamil Nadu government is expected to submit a detailed memorandum to the Centre during the visit, reported IANS.
The memorandum is likely to include demands related to pending Central allocations, compensation dues, assistance under Centrally sponsored schemes and enhanced financial support for welfare programmes being implemented by the state government.
Infrastructure projects, urban development plans, industrial investments and transport connectivity are also expected to be key subjects during the discussions between the state and Union leadership.
The new administration is aiming to secure stronger coordination with the Centre for several long-term development projects planned across Tamil Nadu, reported IANS.
The proposed Delhi trip is expected to take place after the Tamil Nadu government completes internal administrative restructuring and the anticipated Cabinet expansion later this month.
The ruling TVK indicated that the new government is currently focused on finalising governance priorities and departmental responsibilities before the Chief Minister begins formal engagements with the Centre.
The visit is also being viewed as politically important as Vijay seeks to establish a working relationship with the BJP-led Union government while positioning his administration's priorities at the national level.
Party leaders believe the meetings in New Delhi will provide an opportunity for the TVK-led government to present its policy direction and governance roadmap before the Union leadership.
The visit is expected to help the new administration push for cooperation on major welfare schemes, industrial investments and infrastructure expansion projects planned for Tamil Nadu over the coming years.
Vijay, who entered electoral politics after a successful film career, emerged as a major political force in the recent Assembly elections, leading TVK to power in Tamil Nadu.
