In a horrific sequence of scenarios, a college student was sexually assaulted by three men near the Coimbatore International Airport during the early hours of Monday, as per the police authorities.

As reported by news agency PTI, unidentified miscreants attacked and chased away the male friend of the 19-year-old student and allegedly sexually assaulted her on the night of November 2, the police said.

The tragic yet extremely unfortunate incident near the high-security area sent shock waves across the city. Highlighting this incident, the police officials said that seven special teams have been formed to trace out and nab the culprits.

While both the student and her friend have been admitted to hospital, the condition of both the victims is still unknown.

Expressing shock over the incident, BJP leader K Annamalai further claimed that since the DMK came to power in Tamil Nadu, incidents such as these have shown that anti-social elements no longer fear the law or the police.

The BJP leader, while posting on social media platform X, stated that "From DMK ministers to police officials, there has been a disturbing pattern of shielding sexual offenders instead of ensuring justice. The DMK government has utterly failed in both preventing sexual crimes and providing safety for women."

Two arrested for alleged rape of mentally challenged woman in Mumbai

In a different incident in Mumbai, two individuals, including a minor, were arrested on October 10 in connection with the alleged rape of a mentally challenged woman in the Cuffe Parade area, Mumbai Police said.

As reported by news agency ANI, the accused were identified as Ahmed Moinudeen and a juvenile. The incident came to light after the woman was admitted to a hospital by her family, where doctors discovered that she was pregnant, police officials stated.

Following this, the woman reportedly identified the two accused, who were then taken into custody. While the further investigation is underway, the arrestees have been sent to judicial custody.

In another similar case in Karnataka, a man who allegedly raped and murdered a minor girl was shot at and nabbed when he tried to flee, police said on Friday.

The man, identified as Karthik, was traced with the help of CCTV footage and technical surveillance, officials said on Friday.

The girl was sleeping in a temporary tent along with her family that was selling balloons in the just-concluded Mysuru Dasara festival when she was allegedly abducted, raped and murdered by the suspect.
