A 32-year-old woman was killed and 20 others injured in two separate road accidents in Hardoi and Bahraich districts, police said on Wednesday.
In Hardoi, the incident took place on Tuesday night when the driver of the bus travelling from Amethi district to Delhi lost control of the vehicle and overturned, according to PTI.
Harpalpur Circle Officer Satyendra Kumar Singh said the accident was allegedly caused after the driver dozed off while driving. Soon after receiving the information, local police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations, shifting all the injured passengers to a nearby hospital.
Upon reaching the hospital, doctors declared Shahar, 32, a resident of Raniganj Bazar in Amethi district, dead on arrival, police said.
Police officials, while briefing about the incident, asserted, "The injured have been identified as Jayendra, Asmo Bano and Mohammad Nasir and are undergoing treatment," as cited by PTI.
Officials further added that the police have sent the body for a post-mortem and informed the victim's family.
Meanwhile, in Bahraich, 17 persons were injured when a roadways bus and a truck collided head-on near Gadamar village in the Hardi police station area on Tuesday.
According to PTI, the incident took place at around 11 pm when a truck coming from the Bahraich side collided with a roadway bus going from Lucknow to Rupaideha.
Among the injured, Pappu, 42, and Satyadev Sharma, 26, are serious and have been referred to Lucknow for better treatment, police said.
In another incident last month, ten people were killed when a van collided head-on with a truck on the Sisaiya-Lakhimpur National Highway.
The van was going to Sisaiya from Lakhimpur when the accident took place between Unchgaon and Bharehta villages.
Officials said that the van collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. All nine passengers travelling in the van and the driver were killed.
In another incident, a motorcyclist was killed after a cement mixer truck overturned and crushed his two-wheeler in Maharashtra's Pune city shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 12.30 am near a hospital at Navale Bridge in the Narhe area on the Katraj-Bavdhan route.
The cement mixer truck suddenly overturned while negotiating a turn at the Navale chowk and fell onto the motorcycle, crushing the rider underneath, officials from Narhe police station said.
