In a jolt to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, senior state leader Susovan Ganguly on Monday quit the party just weeks before the polls.

In his resignation (mid-day has a copy of it), Ganguly cited an alleged internal mismanagement and neglect of the state's interests as key reasons for his decision.

Ganguly said that he had remained loyal to the party during challenging times and had consistently worked to protect the interests of the Hindu community in West Bengal.

Opposition to TMC and BJP

He highlighted his opposition to both the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for alleged autocratic governance and to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for policies he described as "Gujarati-centric" and harmful to India's global prestige.

Criticism of party leadership

Ganguly expressed disappointment with the national leadership of Shiv Sena (UBT), particularly All India General Secretary Anil Desai, claiming he seemed intent on dismantling the party across India.

He stated that repeated requests for dedicated efforts to support West Bengal's Hindu community were ignored.
