Luna, an AI manager running Andon Labs' experimental San Francisco store, Andon Market, made its first firing recommendation by advising the dismissal of a human employee. The worker had arrived late for 17 of 23 shifts alongside other workplace issues.
However, the decision required human intervention. Although Luna had initially created an attendance policy, logs reveal the AI lost track of it, allowing the employee's chronic tardiness to persist for months.
The process moved forward only after Andon Labs prompted Luna to search her memory, review company policies, and evaluate the worker's performance. Luna then recommended "parting ways," leading human staff to review and subsequently execute the final termination.
