Antarctic sea ice has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past decade, shifting drastically from unprecedented record highs to concerning near-record lows.

According to satellite data from NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Centre (NSIDC), Antarctic sea ice reached its annual maximum extent on September 14, coming in as the third-lowest winter peak ever recorded since satellite tracking began in the 1970s. This trend marks a sharp reversal from historical patterns. From 2012 through 2014, the continent experienced consecutive years of record-high winter sea ice growth.
