India has advised its citizens to postpone all travel to Iran until the security situation improves, citing rising instability and escalating military activity in the country.
In a revised travel advisory issued on Sunday, the Indian Embassy in Tehran also urged Indian nationals already in Iran to consider leaving the country through available commercial flights while advising those who remain to exercise extreme caution.
The Indian Embassy said the recent deterioration in the security situation necessitated greater vigilance from Indian nationals.
"Indian nationals intending to travel to Iran for any purpose should postpone travel for the time being, until the security environment improves," the embassy said.
The advisory follows a sharp rise in regional tensions and military operations involving Iran and the United States.
The embassy urged Indian citizens currently in Iran to temporarily leave the country using available commercial flight services.
For those choosing to remain, the mission advised maintaining the highest level of caution and staying informed about the evolving security situation.
"They should carefully monitor the news to maintain full situational awareness, and should avoid locations seeing higher levels of military activity such as those along the southern coast of the country," the advisory said.
The embassy also urged Indian nationals to follow all instructions issued by local authorities.
The Indian mission asked all Indian citizens in Iran who have not yet registered with the embassy to do so immediately.
It also advised nationals to regularly monitor the embassy's official website and social media platforms for updates and travel-related information.
The embassy has shared emergency helpline numbers for Indian citizens requiring assistance.
The revised advisory comes as tensions in West Asia continue to intensify following recent military exchanges involving the United States and Iran.
According to reports, the US has carried out strikes on key infrastructure in Iran, including bridges, water desalination facilities and electrical installations, while Iran has launched attacks targeting US-allied countries across the region.
The deteriorating security environment has prompted several countries to issue updated travel advisories for their citizens.
India has previously issued similar travel advisories during periods of heightened tensions in West Asia, urging its citizens to remain in close contact with the Indian Embassy and follow official guidance.
