Adys Lastres Morera being detained. PIC COURTESY/ICE
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations agents arrested Adys Lastres Morera in Miami, after Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked her lawful permanent resident status.
Authorities determined her continued presence undermined US foreign policy objectives toward Cuba, citing her role as sister of Ania Guillermina Lastres Morera, Executive President of the military-controlled conglomerate GAESA.
Rubio alleged GAESA possesses USD 18 billion in assets and controls 70 per cent of the Cuban economy. Pending removal proceedings under Section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, Lastres Morera remains in custody, one day after former Cuban leader Raul Castro was federally indicted.
