India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain and Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) president Kapil Dev believes Indian golf will produce its own Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli or Sunil Gavaskar in the near future.
“We think golf is played by the elite, but not anymore. Every young boy wants to play golf, and that’s what we are trying to encourage. Our job as administrators is to bring in more tournaments. Let’s hope that one day we produce a Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli or Sunil Gavaskar in golf. We are just hoping for one big breakthrough, and that they win a world championship or something,” Dev said on the sidelines of the announcement of the Shashi Ruia Memorial Golf Championship on Friday.
