McLaren's Lando Norris clinched pole position for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix, bringing an end to Red Bull's dominance at their home circuit.
Norris's 1.03:971-second lap on Saturday was the first time since 2020 when Red Bull, or rather, Max Verstappen has not bagged pole position at this venue.
"I did what I planned to do and when I plan to do something and it goes right, it normally goes very, very well. Hopefully we can keep it up," said an ecstatic Norris.
Meanwhile, it was a thoroughly chastening qualifying for Red Bull as Verstappen, could only muster a seventh-place grid start. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda suffered the ignominy of being knocked out in the first qualifying session. Meanwhile, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc put in the second-quickest lap ahead of McLaren's Oscar Piastri - the championship leader.
