'NCP (SP) will not form alliance with Ajit Pawar led-NCP', says Sule

NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule said on Wednesday that her party won't forge an alliance with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP for the Pune civic polls. She further added that NCP (SP) and NCP won't align together until all the doubts and apprehensions of her party workers are addressed. While speaking to the media on Wednesday, NCP (SP) MP Sule said that they are in touch with the NCP, and potential repercussions will also be deliberated upon if both NCP groups decide to join hands. About her party's city unit president, Prashant Jagtap's disappointment over the possible tie-up with Ajit Pawar's NCP for the January 15 corporation elections in Pune, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule said that she spoke to him at length and understood his apprehensions. Sule said she assured Jagtap that no ideology or party policy would be compromised if “we join hands with the NCP,” as cited by news agency PTI.  “Jagtap's concerns were valid. His questions are absolutely valid,” the NCP (SP) MP added. Supriya Sule, while referring to past political developments, recalled that her NCP (SP) chief, Sharad Pawar, was forced out of the Congress after he raised the issue of Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin, following which the NCP was formed. She also added, “Later, Sonia Gandhi showed political magnanimity and came to Pawar Saheb, offering him to join the UPA government,” as cited by news agency PTI.  While addressing the party’s ideologies, Supriya Sule said, “Politics has its ups and downs. No ideology or party policy will be compromised if we join hands with the NCP. I have given all these assurances. There is nothing lost in translation.”  She further added that Jagtap is an important leader for their party and that she has explained the organisational structure to him. She further claimed that no alliance has been finalised yet for the civic polls.  Sule emphasised, “These are only discussions. In any strong democracy, dialogue and discussion are important.” Highlighting that she has not spoken to Ajit Pawar, who is also Maharashtra's deputy chief minister and her cousin, yet, she said, “I will speak to Ajit Dada only after listening to all party workers. I will not move ahead with any alliance until all doubts and apprehensions are addressed,” as per PTI.  When asked about the discussions related to the alliance, she pointed out that there are discussions that if the alliance between both the NCP factions takes place, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP might insist that NCP (SP) contest on their 'clock' symbol.  Sule says NCP will contest elections on the ‘tutari’ symbol Sule said that she has not received any such proposal, adding that it was obvious the NCP (SP) would contest on the 'tutari' symbol. Elections to 29 civic corporations in the state, including the Pune Municipal Corporation, will be held on January 15, and votes will be counted the next day. In the recently concluded municipal council and nagar panchayat elections in Maharashtra, the NCP secured 966 seats, compared to 256 by the NCP (SP). (With inputs from PTI)

'Office boy' working on land case accuses Tejwani of signing key papers

The controversial Rs 300-crore Pune land deal case on Wednesday saw an unexpected turn. An "office boy" working with Shital Tejwani, the power of attorney (PoA) holder of the Mundhwa land, which is now seen as the centre of attraction by the court. As reported by news agency PTI, the ‘office boy’ had signed key papers acting as a partner of a private firm linked to the case, the prosecution told a Pune court on Tuesday. The court extended the police custody of Tejwani till December 27 to enable further investigation in the high-profile case after the prosecution claimed she was not cooperating in the ongoing probe in the Pune land deal case.  Shital Tejwani, who is currently in the custody of the Bavdhan police in the Pimpri-Chinchwad township, was produced before a court in the Paud area at the end of her previous remand.  The court has extended her police custody by four more days, said an officer from the Bavdhan police station. While seeking further police custody, the prosecution told the Pune court that the probe carried out so far has revealed an "office boy" working with Tejwani had signed documents such as affidavits and authority letters acting as a partner of Amadea Enterprises LLP, the company which bought the government land in Mundhwa in violation of rules, reported PTI.  While the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's son Parth is a co-partner in Amadea Enterprises, he has surprisingly not been named in the FIR. The prosecution, while arguing in the court, said that the police want to examine these documents to ascertain if there were any financial transactions between the office boy and Tejwani, as per PTI.  Furthermore, the prosecution also said that, as some RTI activists have submitted new documents related to the land deal to the Bavdhan police station, the scope of the probe has widened. The prosecution also argued that, since Tejwani was not cooperating in the ongoing probe, her further interrogation was needed. On the other hand, activists Anjali Damania and Vijay Kumbhar, who are the complainants in the case, also wrote to the Pimpri Chinchwad police demanding that Parth Pawar also be named in the FIR besides Santosh Hingane, the Joint District Registrar. Amadea Enterprises under scrutiny The sale of 40 acres of land in the upscale Mundhwa area for Rs 300 crore to Amadea Enterprises came under scrutiny last month after it was found that the plot belongs to the government and could not be sold. The firm was also allegedly exempted from paying Rs 21 crore in stamp duty. Tejwani, who held PoA for 272 'original watandars (owners)' of the land, allegedly executed the sale deed and sold the property to Amadea Enterprises despite knowing it belonged to the government and could not be sold. Sub-registrar Ravindra Taru allegedly facilitated the sale deed, as per PTI.  Officials of the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) registered an FIR against Digvijay Patil, a co-partner in Amadea Enterprises, Tejwani and Taru for allegedly evading stamp duty. KGMU suspends accused doctor, FIR filed over alleged forced religious conversion

King George's Medical University (KGMU) spokesperson KK Singh has said that strict action has been taken against the doctor accused in a case involving serious allegations, including misconduct and an alleged forced religious conversion, with authorities initiating both administrative and police action. The incident took place on December 17, when a first-year resident doctor from King George's Medical University was harassed by a fellow doctor, which later triggered her to attempt suicide. On the chief minister's portal, an MD pathology student accused a fellow resident doctor of allegedly insisting on religious conversion as a condition for marriage. Speaking to ANI, KGMU spokesperson KK Singh said the university's Vice-Chancellor had constituted a Vishakha Committee to examine the matter. He said the committee has submitted its report, following which the accused doctor has been suspended and barred from entering the university premises. "The Vice-Chancellor had constituted a Vishakha Committee, which has submitted its report. Based on that committee's report, the accused doctor has been suspended and barred from entering the premises. He will only be allowed to come when summoned for the investigation," Singh said. He further stated that the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case and that the university has sought security for the victim, underlining the seriousness of the allegations. "The police have also registered an FIR. We request that the victim be provided with security," he added. Highlighting another grave dimension of the case, Singh said there are allegations that the accused doctor had earlier converted a woman to his religion and married her, and was allegedly attempting to influence and convert another woman. "Another aspect that makes this case serious is that the accused had previously converted someone to his religion and married her. Now he was living with this woman and trying to brainwash her and convert her as well," the KGMU spokesperson said. Singh stressed that all aspects of the case would be thoroughly investigated, including the role of others who may have been aware of the alleged acts or helped conceal them. "First, it will be investigated whether this is true or not, then who all are involved, who were his accomplices, and who knew about this but concealed it from the administration. Everyone will be investigated, and action will be taken," he said. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that the government has taken cognisance of the King George's Medical University (KGMU) incident following allegations of religious conversion by a female resident doctor on the chief minister's portal. "A high-level enquiry has been ordered. Strict action would be taken against the accused," Deputy CM told ANI. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Major infrastructure projects to enhance road capacity in South Delhi approved

The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) has cleared three long-pending and critical projects: the Modi Mill Flyover, Savitri Cinema Flyover, and the MB Road Storm Water Drain project. Together, these projects are designed to ensure signal-free traffic flow and enhanced road capacity, benefiting thousands of daily commuters, according to an official statement. The projects will be executed by the Public Works Department (PWD) with a combined investment of over Rs. 759 crore, underscoring the government's focus on integrated and future-ready urban development. According to the release, the corridor from Modi Mill Flyover to the IIT Gate intersection would have three lanes in each direction, enabling smoother, uninterrupted traffic flow. The project includes the construction of a new two-way Modi Mill Flyover at the Outer Ring Road-Captain Gaur Marg intersection, doubling of the existing Savitri Cinema Flyover at the Savitri Cinema intersectionand capacity augmentation along the Outer Ring Road corridor. The total approved project cost is Rs. 371.75 crore, with the financial break-up for the Modi Mill Flyover to be Rs. 312.84 crore and for the Savitri Cinema Flyover to be Rs. 58.81 crore. According to the release, the project will be completed in 30 months. If the Modi Mill Flyover is taken into consideration, then the length of the three-lane carriageway from Kalkaji Mandir to Modi Mill would be 1,140 metres. At the same time, the length of the three-lane carriageway from Modi Mill to Kalkaji Mandir is 870 metres. If the Savitri Cinema Flyover is taken into consideration, then the length of the three-lane carriageway would be 435 metres. According to the release, once operational, the flyovers will provide signal-free movement, improve traffic speeds, and eliminate congestion at key junctions, particularly at Captain Gaur Marg-Outer Ring Road and Outer Ring Road-GK-II Road. Complementing the flyover works, the MB Road Storm Water Drain Project has been approved to resolve long-standing waterlogging issues caused by damaged and inadequate drainage infrastructure. The key features of the project are the stretch from Lado Sarai T-Point to Pul Prahladpur, the road length of 11.38 km, the total drain length of 22.76 km, the drain type is a pre-cast RCC box drain, the cost of the project is Rs. 387.84 crore, and the implementation period is 2.5 years, including the pre-construction. The project addresses missing drain stretches, damage during metro construction, and insufficient carrying capacity of existing drains, in line with the Delhi Drainage Master Plan. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the EFC clearance reflects the government's resolve to end delays and deliver visible outcomes. "These projects were pending for years due to indecision and lack of coordinated planning. With EFC clearance now in place, we are firmly moving towards execution.", he said. Emphasising an integrated approach, he added, "Flyovers alone cannot solve urban problems. That is why traffic decongestion and storm water drainage are being planned together, so that citizens receive lasting relief, not temporary fixes." Reiterating accountability, the Minister said, "PWD will ensure strict quality control and adherence to timelines. These projects will be closely monitored and completed within the approved framework." According to the release, once completed, the projects will ensure smoother traffic flow, flood-free roads during monsoon, improved pedestrian infrastructure, and long-term maintenance savings, marking a decisive step towards a more resilient and commuter-friendly South Delhi. BJP wants to eliminate Constitution, Congress will resist and defeat it: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the BJP is proposing “elimination of the Constitution” that grants equal rights to all and vowed to create a system of opposition’s resistance that will succeed in removing the party from power. Speaking at the Hertie School in Berlin, he also alleged that the BJP has launched a full-scale assault and has captured the institutional framework of the country to help use it as a tool for building its political power, and that is what the opposition is fighting against. In an hour-long video released by the Congress on Monday, Gandhi said India’s largest and complex democracy is a global asset, and the “assault” on the Indian democratic system is also an attack on the global democratic system. “What the BJP is proposing essentially is the elimination of the Constitution. Elimination of the idea of equality between states, languages, religions, and the central core of the Constitution,” he said. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Welcoming the new entrants, state Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal said their induction would strengthen the party ahead of the civic polls.

State Congress chief welcomes leaders from BJP, NCP, AIMIM, SP into party

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Harshwardhan Sapkal on Tuesday urged voters to give the Congress a decisive mandate in the upcoming Dhule Municipal Corporation Elections, calling for single-party rule similar to the party’s performance in the Lok Sabha polls. Addressing a public meeting in Dhule, Sapkal said the Congress was a party that believed in unity in diversity, while accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of indulging in divisive politics by fuelling caste and religious differences. He said the Congress had delivered strong results in the Lok Sabha Elections and municipal polls and had sent Shobha Bachhav to Parliament from Dhule, and now deserved full control of the civic body. Referring to the freedom struggle, Sapkal said the Congress had led the country’s fight for independence, with countless people making sacrifices under its banner. In contrast, he alleged that the ideological predecessors of the BJP had aligned with the British during the freedom movement and had no role in the Quit India Movement. He also claimed that the Jana Sangh had once allied with the Muslim League to share power. “The country belongs to everyone and not to any single community. Those who had no contribution to India’s freedom are today in power,” Sapkal said.  Taking a swipe at Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Congress leader accused him of betraying promises made to the people. Sapkal said Fadnavis had once vowed not to marry until Vidarbha was made a separate state and had ruled out any alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), but later went back on those commitments. He also alleged that promises related to farm loan waivers and financial assistance to women had not been fulfilled. Sapkal further claimed that Fadnavis made more false promises than Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ahead of civic polls, Congress inducts leaders from multiple parties in Dhule Meanwhile, several leaders from various political parties joined the Congress in Dhule in Sapkal’s presence. Among those who switched sides were three-time Samajwadi Party corporator Amin Patel, NCP leader and former deputy mayor Haji Shavval Ansari, Parvez Sheikh, Azhar Pathan, AIMIM leaders Gani Dollar and Juned Pathan, Shiv Sena’s Prem Sonar and BJP’s Murtuza Ansari. Welcoming the new entrants, Sapkal said their induction would strengthen the Congress ahead of the civic polls.  Lok Sabha MP Dr Shobha Bachhav, senior Congress leaders Bhai Nagarale, Rajaram Panghavane, Dhule city Congress president Sabir Sheikh, Javed Farooqui, Dhule rural district Congress chief Pravinbapu Chaure, Dr Darbarsing Girase and a large number of party workers were present at the event.

The Maharashtra Government has approved a development plan worth Rs 36.35 crore for the Jain pilgrimage site Namokar Tirtha at Malsane in Chandwad Taluka of Nashik District. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. The approved plan allocates Rs 24.26 crore for permanent infrastructure works, including concrete roads, protective boundary walls, boating facilities, a helipad, parking arrangements, electricity supply, and sanitation-related infrastructure. An additional Rs 12.09 crore will be spent on arrangements for the International Panchkalyanak Pratishthan Mahotsav, scheduled at Namokar Tirtha from February 6 to 25, 2026. Minister of State for Finance and Planning, Ashish Jaiswal, and legislator Rahul Aaher were present at the meeting. CM Fadnavis directed all the agencies concerned to ensure that devotees visiting from across India and abroad do not face any inconvenience. Sanitation works, water supply schemes, and other necessary facilities were given top priority. “The festival should be organised in such a way that every visitor feels satisfied with their experience,” Fadnavis said. He also called for close coordination among all government agencies for the successful execution of the development plan and the festival. The development of Namokar Tirtha is expected to generate local employment and enhance the site as a major religious centre for the Jain community in Maharashtra and across the country. It is estimated that 10 to 15 lakh devotees will attend the International Panchkalyanak Pratishthan Mahotsav. Officials review Namokar Tirtha festival preparations in Nashik Nashik District Collector Ayush Prasad presented details through video-conferencing, while Additional Chief Secretaries OP Gupta (Finance) and Manisha Mhaisakar (Public Works), Secretary (Planning) Shaila A, Nashik Divisional Commissioner Pravin Gedam, District Planning Officer Vijay Shinde, and Namokar Tirtha officials were also present.
