At present a case of suicide has been registered with the Sangvi Police Station which falls under the jurisdiction of Pune city police.

Senior Inspector Dilip Noukudkar in-charge of Sangvi Police Station, who is probing the case, said, "In our primary investigation it seems that Sanket was disappointed because he was unemployed. On Wednesday night, he came home from his interview round which he did not clear. He had discussed his issues with his mother and elder sister. He then went to the bedroom. On Thursday morning, when his mother went to wake him up she found him hanging by a rope from the ceiling fan. Her loud crying made the neighbour approach their house. Sanket was then rushed to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival."

Inspector (Crime) Prabhakar Dhage of Sangvi Police Station, who recorded the statement of his family, said, "His mother and relatives claim that he took this drastic step since he was disappointed at being unemployed. Sanket was a kayaker. He had won many medals and trophies in district, state and National level competitions. Due to his achievements in sport, he was offered a job in the sport quota in Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) but due to some issues with senior officers he was not given an appointment.

"Sanket's father claimed his death is due to abetment from MSEDCL officer and we are probing it since the past one and a half years he was not allowed to start his MSEDCL service because of which he was frustrated. He was disheartened since by the tag of unemployment and by the fact that he couldn’t contribute to his family. We are probing the case and we will probe and registere a case against the concerned MSEDCL officers."
