24-year-old student from Mulund riding sports bike at 100kmph dies after hitting divider, pillion rider sustains fracture to his leg; cops said the two were flung 15 feet in the air

Doing more than 100kmph on a sports bike has cost a 24-year-old student from Mulund his life and left his best friend with a fractured leg. The 24-year-old has been identified as Rahul Kamble, the son of a cop and a resident of Mulund Police line, while the friend is Mohit Kamble, 22, his college mate.

Rahul and Mohit had set out on a ride on the latter’s KTM sports bike around 5.30 pm from Mulund on Friday. Rahul had requested Mohit to let him ride the bike for a while.

“Rahul loved bikes, so I let him ride and sat pillion. We first went to Sarvoday Nagar in Mulund West and then to Nahur,” said Mohit. “Later, Rahul tried to call another friend, Vishal, but couldn’t get through to him on the phone, so we decided to return home.” While returning, Rahul decided to speed. “He told me to set a timer and that he would ride at 100 kmph and see how long we would take to reach Mulund,” Mohit said. “As the speed increased, I got scared and repeatedly requested him to slow down, but, he didn’t pay any attention,” said Mohit.
The two then went towards Mulund on the Goregaon Link Road and reached the Eastern Expressway. As soon as he crossed the Mulund-Airoli Bridge, Rahul lost control over the bike and hit a divider. According to eyewitness statements to the cops, “Both riders were flung around 10-15 feet in the air and slammed to the ground.” Both were taken to Veer Savarkar Hospital in Mulund and later to Fortis Hospital, where Rahul succumbed to his injuries.“Rahul was a third year commerce student while Mohit is in the second year of the same course. They used to travel together,” said a police officer from Navghar Police station.
