Emboldened by getting away with raping his 14-year-old niece for the last seven months, a 38-year-old man tried to do the same to her elder sister and landed up in jail.
Around 3 pm on Saturday, the survivor’s elder sister, who is 16 years old, was alone at her home in Vasai as her parents had gone to a relative’s house. Her uncle allegedly forcibly entered the house and tried to rape her. Her neighbours heard her cries for help and called the police.

Seeing her uncle in police custody, the survivor’s 14-year-old sister gathered the courage to tell her mother that he had raped her in her house on several occasions in the past seven months, when her parents were away.
“She said she hadn’t been able to speak up as he had threatened to kill her parents and her sister if she did so,” said a Waliv police official. The survivors’ mother immediately informed the Waliv police and a rape case was registered. The uncle has been remanded in police custody till tomorrow.
