Mumbai Crime: Woman faked robbery to save her gold from in-laws

Hetal Jethwa’s lie has been caught. The housewife from Charkop, whose house was robbed after two eunuchs allegedly rendered her unconscious with a spray, had lied about the entire incident, because she feared her in-laws would mortgage her jewellery. She robbed it so that she could give her children a good education. Jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh had been robbed from Hetal’s home. However, she confessed to the police that she had stolen the valuables and hidden them in her home.

Hetal Jethwa had previously claimed she was robbed by eunuchs when she was alone at home. However, when cops grilled her about the incident and showed her CCTV footage and her doctor’s statements, she broke down and confessed to stealing her own gold for securing her children’s future. Due to bad financial conditions in her home, and feared that her gold would be mortgaged to run the house. She didn’t want her children to be deprived of a good education and hence, she faked the heist.

Hetal had previously claimed that on Saturday evening, two eunuchs knocked on the door of her house and asked for water. When she brought water for them, they spritzed her face with a spray that made her unconscious. Later, the eunuchs stole 35 tolas of gold jewellery from the house and fled.

Eunuchs didn’t visit society
Senior police inspector Ramchandra Gaikwad said, “Police started the investigation and checked all the CCTV footage near the society – CCTV has been stalled outside the Bhagyakalp society – after checking the footage, it was revealed that eunuchs had visited the society a day before the incident, but on the day of the robbery, no eunuch came to the society.” The cop’s started to doubt Hetal’s story after this.

Another doubt arose when the doctor who examined Hetal during her treatment told the cops that had someone put poisonous spray on Hetal, her eyes would have turned red and water would have started flowing from the eyes and nose. But this hadn’t happened to Hetal. In fact, when doctors put drops in her eyes, she opened them normally, which is unlike of people who are unconscious.

Also, she was administered with medicine powerful enough to wake any unconscious person within 10 minutes. However, Hetal stayed ‘unconscious’ for another two hours.

The confession
Then, the cops decided to grill Hetal. When they kept their findings of the medical circumstances and CCTV footage in front of Hetal, she broke down and confessed to committing the crime. The robbed gold was recovered from her house.

The cops, led by detection officer API Pradeep Rao Rane and PSI NB Jagtap, solved the robbery case. They have now have seized all the robbed material and will prepare a B summary report, after which a court will decide the future course of action.
