Think twice before chatting up with that stranger on Facebook. You might just turn out to be the next victim of his sexual desires. In a similar case, a 20-year-old girl from Vashi had to pay with her life when she refused to have sex with her Facebook friend. After his best efforts to convince her failed, the 21-year-old youth strangulated her to death using his shoelace and dumped her body on the staircase.
The Palghar police arrested accused Haridas Yergode within an hour of the incident. According to sources, Anita Jadhav (name changed) and Yergode became friends on Facebook last year. After accepting the accused's friend request, she started chatting with him on a regular basis.
Speaking to mid-day, an officer from Vashi police station said, "They have met each other once before this incident. On the day of the murder, the accused asked her to come over to his residence in Nalasopara. After she reached around 10 am, they talked for some time. Then the accused requested her to sleep with him, but she refused."
He further said, "The accused tried to convince her, but when she didn't agree, he strangulated her to death in a fit of rage." When some of the residents found her body on the staircase, they immediately informed the police about it, after which Yergode was arrested.
In another social media related crime, a doctor's wife was conned out of Rs 10 Lakh by Facebook friend in Mumbai.
