In a cruel twist of events, a grandfather of the five-year-old girl, whose body was found at the Nhava gaon creek, died of a heart attack soon after he went to take custody of the body. Fazlur Rehman, (46), was a taxi driver from Mumbra, who had accompanied his niece, who is the mother of the girl, and his two cousins.

On Monday the Wadala police informed the complainant, Shaziya about the recovery of the body. They also called the brother of her husband, Ashad Khan (35), who is missing from Thursday.

“Some members of Khan’s family including his brother Azam, and their relatives, and four from our family — three of us cousins and Shaziya — rushed to Vashi Municipal Hospital,” said Rizwan Siddique, Shaziya’s uncle.

Blame game
Taking up from the suicide note left by Khan in which he blamed Shaziya for harassing him, his brothers and relatives allegedly started blaming her for the incident.

“We argued and they also tried to assault us. But the police stopped the fight and told us to leave. Fazlur took his taxi and left the spot. We — the constable, three cousins, Shaziya — were in the taxi and after driving for 200 metres he started sweating and slowed down the vehicle. But he lost control and dashed a bike parked on the road. We found he was not breathing and took him to a hospital in Govandi. He died of a heart attack, a doctor told us,” added Rizwan, who claims Fazlur was in shock due to the argument, and suffered a heart attack.

Rizwan also claims the police have registered an ADR at Vashi police station, though they have given them names of three people who started the argument and tried to assault Fazlur.

Members of Khan’s family claim that after Fazlur saw the dead body of the girl that was decomposed, he got tense and started to sweat.

“He got scared and tense after seeing the body of the girl as it was decomposed. The suicide note blames Khan’s wife. To avoid a case they are trying to harass us,” said Azam, Khan’s brother.

Police says
Arun Kumar Landge, Senior PI, Vashi police station said, “We have registered an accidental death case and are further investigating the matter. Action will be taken accordingly.”

The body of Minal was handed over to her mother Shaziya.
