Muzaffarnagar: A woman gave birth in an ambulance after a government hospital allegedly demanded bribe to admit her at Jansath town here, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred yesterday when Amir brought his pregnant wife to a community health centre (CHC) here after
she complained of labour pain. However, the staff demanded a bribe to admit the woman, they said.

The woman delivered in the ambulance while she was taken to another medical centre, police said.

The victim's family staged a dharna outside the hospital following the incident.

Sharanvir Singh, Superintendent of the CHC, has ordered an enquiry into the matter and promised strict action against
those responsible for the alleged act.
